Pittsfield's Blog 10-29-11 Lorain County Townships are considering forming a Police District, with a contract with the Lorain County Sheriff to provide Sheriff protection to the Townships. This protection will be funded by a 1mil property tax. This will be county wide and only for the townships providing 9-11 deputies dedicated to the Townships. Each Township can opt out but the vote will be county wide(townships only). The Townships will be "The Board" controlling how the money is spent by the Sherriff. County Commissioners will not control this funding. Question: Shall Pittsfield join the 18 townships or shall Pittsfield opt out and not participate in this vote and not support the 1mil property tax? update 03-01-12 Pittsfield Township Trustees Voted to Join the District There by Possible Allowing the Voters to Vote on the Levy in the Fall General Election. As of 03-01-12 About 17 Townships have committed to the district with 1 opting out. If Pittsfield opts out we would have the present Sheriff protection without the aid of the added deputies.
(Please pass this web poll on to others in the township) |

As a 30 year resident of the township I can honestly say that if
you count on the sheriff’s department for protection then you blindly
put your faith in an organization that has little to no presence in our
community when it counts. My advice is to become friends with your
neighbors, buy a personal protection device and look out for one
another.
I will not vote for this levy and will encourage fellow
residents to do the same.
For the speed issue call the highway patrol because the sheriff will tell you it is not their problem. Speed is a major issue on our roads especially when the JVS kids are coming and going from school. I have seen them drag race, get 10 feet of air off hills, turf fields, take out utility poles and kill each other. It is a shame that they will never learn their lesson.
Best regards,
Dan

03-10-12 Good idea to opt in on a 3 year contract to evaluate
the response, need and outcome. Can opt out after 3 year contract if
the program doesn't benefit the community or continue if it is
beneficial.
We are new to the community and noted from several residence
that there has been allot of theft in the area. Also, one of our
big concerns is
the speed which cars travel down the side roads., i.e.,
Hughes Rd., many cars travel so incredibly fast, we fear someone is
going to get hurt one of these days. Added patrol or assisting the
sheriff is a good idea.
Thanks, Jenn and Dave
