TORNADO ANNIVERSARY

UPDATE!

60th Anniversary of 1965 Palm Sunday Tornado



Pittsfield Twp. and LaGrange Historical Societies will host an event to commemorate the 60th Anniversary of the 1965 Palm Sunday Tornado that destroyed Pittsfield’s center, taking nine lives, and then traveling toward LaGrange taking five more lives. The event will take place Saturday, April 26th at Pittsfield Town Hall at Rt58 & Rt303 from about noon to 4pm.


A program is being put together which includes showing the documentary about the tornado & interviewed survivors produced by Wellington High School’s Drama Class. In addition, author Roger Pickenpaugh will attend and talk about his book The Night of the Wicked Winds and share his memories of interviewing survivors. Several local survivors will be sharing their memories as well. Pictures and newspaper articles will be available for viewing. Light refreshments will be provided.


This tornado didn’t just devastate Pittsfield. It went on to hit LaGrange, Grafton and Columbia Station with more loss of lives, injuries and destruction.
